Yoga in the Light of a Balanced Life-Style

For humans, being intellectually superior among all the living beings poses the greatest challenge of developing and maintaining virtues like self control, self realization and self-improvement. The bond between our body, mind and spirit which are the basis of our existence, are very delicate and volatile. Practitioners of Vedic philosophy realized the hazards of the dissociation of body, mind and spirit that can push an individual into the abyss of physical and spiritual deception. In the dire need to maintain the integrity of a human life, great Vedic sciences like Yoga and Ayurveda evolved thousands of years ago.

Yoga lays emphasis on achieving the positive potentials of mind and spirit for creating a balanced and wholesome life. Even though physical afflictions are not the highlight of Yoga, physical health and wellness are quintessential for fulfilling its higher goals. The principles of Yoga and Ayurveda as “sister sciences”  intertwines them in nearly an inseparable manner. Ayurveda emphasizes that health is the substratum for achieving every goal of life ranging from materialistic wealth to spiritual enlightenment. Ayurveda concentrates on balancing the physical energies or doshas and relies heavily on Yoga for balancing the mental and spiritual energies.
